The Uniform Code Council, Inc. (UCC) is a not-for-profit organization originally founded in 1972 as the Uniform Grocery Product Code Council. In close cooperation with its global partner, EAN International, the UCC functions as a primary resource for business and industry, coordinating worldwide identification codes, data transport media, and electronic commerce standards. The Uniform Code Council has over 250,000 members and represent over 25 verticals.

The mission of the Uniform Code Council, Inc. (UCC) is to take a global leadership role in establishing and promoting multi-industry standards for product identification, including the Universal Product Code (U.P.C.), and related electronic communications. The goal is to enhance efficient supply chain management, contributing added value to the customer.

Gs1 is the new name for the combined organizations - EAN International, the UCC (Uniform Code Council) and its expanding member organization. The UCC changed its name to GS1 US ective June 7th, 2005. Click here - for more information on Gs1 US.
