What is Gs1 (formerly known as Uniform Code Council)?
Gs1 is the new name for the combined organizations - EAN International, the UCC (Uniform Code Council) and its expanding member organization. The UCC changed its name to GS1 US ective June 7th, 2005. GS1 formally combines the world's most accepted standards system, the EAN.UCC System, into one organization with no geographic or industry boundaries.
UCC and EAN International (now GS1) have successfully been delivering standards to over 1 million companies around the world to improve the efficiency of the supply chain. Today, their global bar code standards guarantee that any product, pallet, or case can be scanned and read in any country around the world. Their global EDI standards dramatically increase data accuracy and speed by fully automating the exchange of business documents (orders, invoices, payments, etc.) between trading partners whether they are across the street or on another continent.
Gs1 for formerly known as the Uniform Code Council, Inc. (UCC) which is a not-for-profit organization originally founded in 1972 as the Uniform Grocery Product Code Council.
